The Wedding of

Emma + David

30 July 2019

How we Met

David and I both play a sport called Korfball. At the time I (Emma) was living in Edinburgh and represented the Scottish national team. David came up to Edinburgh for a taster session and I arrived very hungover! The first time we saw each other I was ranting at my teammates for leaving lots of booze in my flat and for letting us get that drunk the night before! I turned round and David was laughing at me and we’ve been laughing ever since!

The Proposal

We were in Paris and I was very invested in the best crepe I’ve ever tasted! Suddenly David was rushing me to the Eiffel Tower gardens despite me trying to demand I get to finish my crepe first. He was very quiet and I was agitated about finishing my crepe!! I laid down on the grass (finally finishing the best crepe ever) and David told me to sit up, when I did he was there on one knee with the most gorgeous ring!

The Wedding Dress, Bridesmaid’s Dresses & Suits

I’ve always wanted a princess dress so my dress was quite big in the skirt and the top was sparkly bodice with a plunged neckline and spaghetti diamanté straps.

David is Scottish so wore his family tartan kilt which is blue and green, this set the tone for the rest of the wedding party. The bridesmaids wore a fitted, emerald green, halter neck, floor length dress with sequins from top to bottom. They looked beautiful! The groomsmen/bridesman wore three piece, black, slim fit suits with emerald green ties.

Hoo St Werburgh Church

Our ceremony was at Hoo St Werburgh church, at the time this was only down the road from our home so we had been able to visit multiple times before the wedding. We’d always wanted a church wedding and the church had beautiful stained glass windows and grounds! The reverend was also so lovely!

Cooling Castle Barn

We chose Cooling Castle Barn for our reception venue.

The barn is very local to us so we knew about it before we were engaged! We loved the country location and how the venue combined the castle and barn landscape. The backdrops for the photos were breathtaking and the staff were excellent and getting ready there was perfect!

Dressing the Venue

Fairy lights were a huge part of our decorations! We had huge initial lights on the balcony of the barn and fairy lights across the ceiling and down the pillars. We also added emerald green gems and white roses to the tables and named each table after a place we had visited (of course the top table was named Paris!). We also had a memory table which was set up with flowers, fairy lights and photos of my grandparents and Davids mother.

The Wedding Cake

The wedding cake had 3 tiers: chocolate, Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle! The icing was white with our family tartan ribbons going round each tier. The topper was a glittery MR AND MRS WISEMAN :)

The First Dance

Our first dance was to Michael Buble – Everything!

You wouldn’t know it watching the video but we had a whole choreographed routine which we’d been practicing for months. Unfortunately we didn’t think about the size of my dress when we rehearsed so most of the dance was improvised haha

My advice to couples just setting out to plan their Wedding day

Book a venue first! They tend to have the longest waiting lists and are also the centre of all of your plans! I also would be open minded when picking a wedding dress, I tried on dresses I’d never even thought I’d ever want but turned out actually looked really nice! Most of all share the load and make planning fun :)

Videographers

Ryan from Talking Fly was excellent from start to finish! From the original booking to the last dance on the big day. Talking Fly captured so much of our big day and even moments we didn’t see at the time, they were extremely professional and we hardly noticed them on the day. The turn around felt very quick and the quality of the trailer, DVD and memory stick was excellent.
