Cooling Castle Barn has a real winter character to it, with the ceremony, reception and evening all held within the same historic Kent setting. For Anna and Sam, that made February feel close and personal, with everyone gathering in one place while the day moved from morning preparations through to dancing after dark. Their film had plenty to lean on: quiet family moments before the ceremony, speeches after dinner, and a first dance followed by Anna dancing with her father.
Morning
Preparations began at Cooling Castle Barn, with Anna and Sam both getting ready at the venue before the ceremony. One of the details Anna had asked us to capture was their young daughter getting ready, which brought a very personal part of family life into the film. There was also time set aside for Anna’s father to see her before she left for the ceremony, the kind of moment that does not need much staging to matter on camera.
Ceremony
The ceremony took place indoors at Cooling Castle Barn at 2pm, with guests already settled in by the time Anna arrived. Sam had been at the venue earlier in the day, so the build-up had that steady feeling you get when everything is happening under one roof. In the film, the focus stayed on the reactions, the vows and the small glances between them as the room became quiet.
Speeches and Wedding Breakfast
After the ceremony, everyone stayed at Cooling Castle Barn for the reception and wedding breakfast, which began later in the afternoon. The speeches came after the meal, with Anna’s father, Sam and the best man each taking their turn. It gave the evening a clear lift before the lights changed and the celebration moved towards the dance floor.
Evening
The evening centred around the cake cutting and first dance, both important parts of the final chapter of the film. Anna and Sam had their first dance at 8pm, followed by Anna dancing with her father. With a band playing later on, there was plenty of movement and energy to round off their winter wedding at Cooling Castle Barn.
