Sophie & Jamie

25th September 2025Harty Estate

Sophie & Jamie’s late September wedding at The Ferry House in Harty was a day full of emotion, family moments and pure celebration. From a beautiful father–daughter reveal to heartfelt vows and a high-energy dancefloor, the whole day felt warm, joyful and unmistakably them.

The morning at The Ferry House

Sophie spent the morning getting ready at The Ferry House with her bridal party, surrounded by that mix of calm and excited buzz that only a wedding morning has. Hair and makeup by Ebony Payne took shape, dresses were steamed, details laid out and the room slowly shifted from everyday to wedding day.

One of the standout moments of the morning was Sophie’s emotional reveal to her dad, Bernie. After she had stepped into her dress, he came in to see her for the first time, and his reaction said everything – pride, love and the realisation that his little girl was about to walk down the aisle. It set the tone beautifully for the rest of the day and gave everyone a little glimpse of just how much this day meant to the family.

An emotional indoor ceremony

The ceremony took place indoors at The Ferry House, which had been duly sanctioned for the celebration of marriage. Registrar Catherine, along with her colleague Susan, welcomed everyone and spoke about marriage as a commitment built on love, friendship, help and comfort – a union created when two people promise to care for one another for life.

With guests watching on, Sophie was accompanied down the aisle by her dad Bernie, and you could feel the emotion in the room as she and Jamie finally stood together at the front. Catherine reminded them of the solemn and binding nature of the vows they were about to make and invited anyone with a lawful reason why the marriage could not proceed to speak – silence, of course, which always gets a little ripple of laughter.

Jamie and Sophie then gave their verbal consent, promising to be not only husband and wife but best friends, loving and faithful to each other for the rest of their lives. They each declared that they knew of no legal reason why they may not be joined in marriage, before moving into their marriage vows – the heart of the ceremony.

With their hands joined, Jamie repeated his vows to Sophie, followed by Sophie repeating hers to Jamie. Rings were brought forward by Ash, and with the words “with this ring, I join my life with yours. All that I am, I give to you. And all that I have, I share with you. I promise to respect and cherish you and be faithful always”, they sealed their promises.

Catherine spoke about always being able to confide in each other, supporting one another’s hopes and dreams and finding joy and contentment in their life together. With the registers signed and all the paperwork checked by Susan, it was finally time for the line everyone had been waiting for – Jamie and Sophie were pronounced husband and wife, to a huge round of applause.

Just married – confetti, hugs and that first drink

Once the formalities were complete and the commemorative certificate presented, the newlyweds made their way back up the aisle as Mr & Mrs Johnson, greeted by cheers and big smiles from family and friends. Outside the ceremony room, there was time for congratulations, hugs, a few happy tears and that all-important first drink as guests gathered around them.

It’s one of those parts of the day that always flies by, but you could see how much they both treasured those little moments – the squeezes of the hand, the “you look incredible”, the “I’m so happy for you” from people who have known them for years.

Napkins in the air – the wedding breakfast entrance

After some time for photos and drinks, guests were called through for the wedding breakfast. Sophie & Jamie had planned a brilliant entrance – they waited until everyone was seated and then came in to Freed from Desire, with napkins waving in the air and the room on its feet. It was loud, joyful and exactly the kind of entrance that tells you this is going to be a good party.

Speeches – heart, humour and a few stories Jamie will never live down

Father of the bride – pride, thanks and a big welcome

Bernie opened the speeches by admitting he was nervous, but once he started talking it was clear how much love he has for his family. He began by thanking everyone for coming, including those who had travelled “miles and miles and miles”, even from across the water and overseas. You could hear how grateful he was to have so many people gathered in one place for Sophie & Jamie.

He then turned to his wife Janet, making a point of giving her the special thanks she deserved – noting that at a couple of previous weddings she hadn’t had quite the mention she should have had. This time he corrected that, calling her the rock of the family and recognising everything she has done for their girls.

Talking about Sophie brought the emotion up another notch. He described his “absolutely beautiful daughter” and how proud both he and Janet are of her – not just on the wedding day, but for everything she has achieved and the person she has become. There were little nods to the Marks & Spencer girls and memories they’ve shared, mixed in with the very real emotion of a dad seeing his daughter married.

Finally, Bernie turned his attention to Jamie, describing him as an “unbelievable guy” and warmly welcoming him into the family, alongside his mum Jo. With a cheeky reference to “what happens on tour stays on tour” from a previous adventure, he had everyone laughing again before closing his speech and handing over to Jamie.

The groom – gratitude, friendship and a love story that began at 11

Jamie began by thanking Bernie for his words, then turned to the room to share his and Sophie’s gratitude. Seeing so many faces they love in one room clearly meant a lot – he pointed out how people had come from all over the country and even abroad, and how much it meant to both of them that everyone had made the effort to be there.

He thanked Bernie and Janet for welcoming him into the family and for everything they had done to help make the day possible. He then moved on to the wedding party, giving a special mention to the bridesmaids Ellie and Jess, the flower girls and their page boy River, all of whom looked amazing and played a big part in the day.

His groomsmen – Aron, Ben and Kieran – were thanked as his rocks over the years, the friends who have stood by him through ups and downs. He also gave a heartfelt thank you to his mum for raising him, supporting him and simply always being there, telling her how beautiful she looked that day.

Jamie then spoke directly to his best man and new brother-in-law, Ash, acknowledging his support, guidance and motivation over the years and how much their friendship means to him. He rounded off the thank-yous by recognising the staff at The Ferry House, noting from experience just how much work goes into a day like this and how much he and Sophie appreciated every bit of it.

Then came the part everyone was waiting for – his words to Sophie. Jamie talked about how they’ve known each other since they were 11, in the same friendship group at school, and how she went from the quiet, shy girl he remembers to the outgoing, bubbly, strong woman she is today. Their real story, he said, began when they were 17 and properly joined their lives together, and from there they’ve built years of memories side by side.

He spoke about how Sophie makes him laugh even on the bad days, how she’ll sit with him through the highs and lows of football and how he still can’t quite believe how lucky he is to have her in his life. Calling her his love, his partner and his wife, he promised to never stop learning, growing and laughing with her, to stand by her when things are easy and when they’re not, and to keep “chasing” her every day for the rest of their lives. He finished with a toast to his beautiful wife Sophie, and there were plenty of misty eyes around the room.

The best man & the lads – stories, banter and brotherhood

Best man Ash opened his speech with a bit of classic best man honesty. He described Sophie as being “particular” about things – others, he joked, might say controlling, but particular definitely sounds nicer on your wedding day. Jamie, on the other hand, was painted as laid back, and Ash pointed out how well those two personalities balance each other out.

He then told the story of when Sophie & Jamie first moved to Ivy Drive. Jamie rang Sophie in a panic saying the keys didn’t work and he couldn’t get into the house. It turned out he was standing outside the wrong one – trying to get into number nine instead of number eleven – even going round the back and peering through the windows of an empty house, much to the confusion of the neighbours.

Another favourite story was from a Budapest stag do. Jamie, at 21 and wanting to sound like one of the lads, came out with “what happens on tour stays on tour”. The only problem was that Bernie – his future father-in-law – was there, so it wasn’t exactly the most discreet audience for that particular line.

Ash also had a surprise up his sleeve. In a part of the day Sophie hadn’t managed to organise or control, he invited some of Jamie’s closest friends to say a few words. Aron spoke about the privilege of calling Jamie a friend through school and work, describing him as loyal, supportive and always there when you need him – even if his loyalty sadly also extends to Manchester United.

Ben talked about over 20 years of friendship, from primary and secondary school memories to nights out and all the embarrassing stories in between, saying what an honour it was to stand beside Jamie on such a big day. Kieran, who met Jamie through football about ten years ago, spoke about how their friendship quickly grew into something more like brotherhood – especially meaningful because they are both only children. He thanked Jamie for always being there, both personally and professionally, and told Sophie how happy he was to see them start this new chapter together.

The lads finished to big applause, and Ash wrapped up by inviting everyone to stand and raise a glass one more time to the new Mr & Mrs Johnson.

First dance and a packed dancefloor

As the evening rolled in and the DJ got going, it was time to bring everyone back to the dancefloor. Sophie & Jamie’s first dance quickly turned into the kind of moment everyone loves – friends and family joining in, singing along and properly leaning into the celebration. From there, the evening became exactly what they’d hoped for: a busy dancefloor, big choruses, guests belting out lyrics and that feeling of not wanting the night to end.

The Ferry House provided the perfect backdrop – cosy but full of energy, with the music flowing, lights low and everyone in the mood to celebrate. It felt like the perfect way to finish a day that had started with quiet emotion and ended with full-on joy.
