Sophie + Joe

23rd June 2023Solton Manor

There was a relaxed, close-to-home feel to Sophie and Joe’s summer celebration at Solton Manor, with everything happening in one place and plenty of time for the day to breathe. Joe had a cottage on site for the morning, while Sophie was already at the manor after staying the night before, so the build-up felt calm rather than rushed. By early afternoon, guests were arriving in the grounds for an outdoor ceremony in the June air.

Morning

Solton Manor made the morning feel nicely contained, with no travel between prep, ceremony and reception. Joe got ready in the separate cottage while Sophie was already at the venue, which gave us the chance to capture both sides of the preparations without pulling anyone away from the day. Having everything in one location also meant the focus stayed on the people and the setting rather than logistics.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place outside at Solton Manor, with guests gathering from early afternoon before Sophie and Joe made it official. Outdoor ceremonies always bring a different energy on film, especially when everyone is already settled into the venue and the surroundings. It gave their vows a real sense of place, with the manor and grounds naturally sitting in the background of the story.

Speeches and Wedding Breakfast

After the ceremony, the afternoon moved into cake cutting and speeches before dinner, which gave the reception a strong run of reactions before everyone sat down to eat. The bride’s father, Joe and the best man all spoke before the wedding breakfast, so there was plenty of laughter, detail and connection to build into the film. It is always useful when speeches happen before food, as the room still has that full afternoon energy.

Evening

By the evening, the celebration shifted into party mode with the band ready and the first dance at around 8pm. After a day kept within the grounds of Solton Manor, the evening felt like a natural release, with everyone already fully settled into the venue. It gave Sophie and Joe’s film a clear final chapter, moving from the quieter morning moments through to the dance floor.
