This film was built around the small, real moments that gave Louise and Paolo’s summer wedding at Cooling Castle Barn its character: the last part of bridal prep, the music in the ceremony, the two bursts of confetti, and the shift into a live acoustic first dance. Cooling gave the day a clear shape, with everyone moving from prep to ceremony, drinks, speeches, cake and dancing without losing the feeling of being present with the people around them.
Morning
We joined Louise at Cooling Castle Barn as the final bridal prep was coming together. She was getting ready on site, which meant the move from the room to the ceremony felt close and natural, with no long journey breaking up the story. Those last details gave the film a quiet start before the pace changed for the ceremony.
Ceremony
The ceremony took place at Cooling Castle Barn, with a string quartet adding a live, intimate feel as the wedding party made their entrance. Louise was due to leave the prep room shortly before the 1.30pm ceremony, so the film could follow that short walk into the next part of the day. After the ceremony, there was confetti as they came back down the aisle, followed by another confetti moment outside for the photos and film.
Speeches and Wedding Breakfast
Guests were called through for the wedding breakfast in the afternoon, with speeches saved until after the meal. The bride’s father, Paolo and the best man each spoke from the traditional top table setup, giving the film a strong run of reactions around the room as well as the speeches themselves. The cake cutting followed straight afterwards, keeping the energy moving into the evening.
Evening
The first dance was planned for 7.30pm and kept simple, with one acoustic dance played live. It was a neat way to bring the formal parts of the day to a close, shifting the film from speeches and cake into music, movement and the start of the evening party. We stayed through that transition so the final section of the film had the same sense of place as the rest of the day.
